This week, we added a few new templates to the Skytap Cloud public template library.
Our first template is the Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Server x64 Linux OS. Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS is the latest “long-term support” version of Ubuntu. You can read all about it in the Ubuntu release notes. The template has been set up for you with a pre-configured user account and a secure root password. Simply spin this template up and you’ll be off and running with this new version. We’ve used this template extensively this week with our other new templates.
Our second template is a GitLab Server (running on our new Ubuntu 12.0.4.1 template). GitLab is a self-hosted Git management server (think GitHub, but hosted by you). It is a fast, secure, and stable solution with a management UI built on Ruby on Rails and git functionality is provided by Gitolite. You can find additional information on the GitLab website, and the code can be found on Github.
Our third template is a Jenkins Continuous Integration Server (also running on our new Ubuntu 12.04.1 template, told you we reused this one a bunch this week). Jenkins is a continuous integration server that monitors the execution of repeated jobs, like building software projects and/or deploying software (to name just a few). With continuous integration and automated test execution growing in popularity, having a Jenkins server in the library is sure to make your life easier. Feel free to meet Jenkins to see what it can do for you.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Skytap Support or your Skytap representative. And be sure to stay tuned for a new template coming soon that uses all of these templates with a few others from the library.
Until next time,
Matt
